Rubix Literary Magazine #13: Nature and the Environment
$ 18.00
Rubix Literary Magazine is a creative environment where young scholars come together to learn and put into practice their literary and creative writing skills. Here, students are exposed to a variety of writing that touches on the nuances of the world they are inheriting. Facilitated by 826 Boston, Rubix is an after-school club at the John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science where students collaborate and share ideas with the goal of publishing Rubix Literary Magazine at the end of the school year.
Our editorial board selects a theme for the year and then reaches out to fellow students to respond to that theme. Our writers express their viewpoints and stories through a creative interpretation of their choice. This year’s theme is “Nature and the Environment.” Students in grades 7-12 submitted a range of work — from poems to photography — expressing their appreciation of our world, as well as their criticisms for what we’ve turned it into. As environmental crises continue to impact our lives, the perspectives of youth have become more important than ever.
Students in Rubix are free to express their feedback, criticisms, and feelings without fear of ridicule. Through their thoughts, but even more importantly their words, Rubix has allowed students to express themselves and create bonds with friends and their pens that will last a lifetime. We aim to develop the next group of talented writers, whether they see themselves in creative writing or another form like journalism. The art that students create, whether with pictures or words, helps form a connection to their creative senses that will bind them for the rest of their lives.
